Email note from Ken Paul:
Enjoyed visiting your blogspot, Don. I agree with others that it was probably a good thing not to plug into classes and workshops too much while you were developing your own voice. You obviously have "teachers" (Picasso, etc.) but mostly by way of your being able to look for the essences of their achievements and learn from that. Whether the time ever comes that you feel the need for some theory or more structured tutelege, I cannot say - only you can do that. But for now, your instincts are carrying you very nicely, and this gives your work an impactful immediacy. The images are not packed full of information that takes a long time to sort through visually (which is how MY work tends to be, I think), but they function in an open-ended psychospiritual fashion. Viewing your work is like looking at an aspect of oneself. (Which is an interesting bit of wordplay in our language, it suddenly strikes me - One SELF!)
Thanks
Ken
